All about you - reflection section
Here are a few images from my 5.4 self-initiated project. The purpose and idea behind this project is to encourage more people in the UK to play table tennis. While table tennis is a very common sport in other countries, it is much less popular in the UK, with very few people aware of local clubs they could potentially join. As I’m passionate about the sport, I decided to produce a visual identity or campaign, for an all inclusive audience, to encourage greater participation.
At the beginning of this project, I was unsure about the format of my final outcome—whether it would be a motion piece, a series of posters, or something else. However, after a lot of experimental work in the photography studio and producing visual sketches, I decided to develop a promotional animation to be shared digitally. This format allows for the widest possible reach through platforms like social media, where dynamic, eye-catching content can quickly connect with a broad audience.
To represent table tennis visually, I chose a bright colour scheme inspired by table tennis balls, tables and bat rubbers. When creating different motion graphics, focusing on the movement of the ball—how it bounces, the speed of the game, the variety of spins, and the motion of the player—really helped me produce an energetic, fun visual. I added a range of sounds to make the animation more engaging, including an upbeat sports rhythm, crowd cheers, and the distinctive bounce of table tennis balls.
I’d like to share my passion for a lesser-known sport that has a strong social aspect and helps make a positive impact. Therefore my next steps in the studio will involve sharing this table tennis animation publicly via digital platforms such as social media. Digital platforms now demand moving images and attention grabbing designs, which is what I am aiming at with my animation.
